66 Years Of Black Governance.
"We have won the battle and again rededicate ourselves … OUR INDEPENDENCE IS MEANINGLESS UNLESS IT IS LINKED UP WITH THE TOTAL LIBERATION OF AFRICA."........ Did we really win the battle?
It's been sixty-six years since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah uttered the words "At long last, the battle has ended, and Ghana our beloved country is free forever!" at the Old Polo Grounds, Accra on the 6th of March in 1957. Sixty-six years of governance under the black man. Though some may argue a form of colonialism still exist today, with our country heavily dependent on foreign aid, it still doesn't steal the joy of obtaining freedom (no matter how shadowed it may be) from many years of terror.
Ghana has seen 4 Republics within this sixty-six years with the current regarded as the most democratic of all since its inception in 1992 under the Late Flight Lieutenant J.J Rawlings.
This year's celebration of the independence day would be hosted by the capital of the Volta Region, Ho, dubbed "Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose". Not so different from the ones in the past years as there'll be military drills and display from the many security services and a march-past by students, trade unions and the likes.
"Reshaping Ghana’s destiny, I am depending on the millions of the country, and the chiefs and the people, to help me to reshape the destiny of this country. We are prepared to pick it up and make it a nation that will be respected by every nation in the world." Says Nkrumah. It's with hope that our leaders, if not for anything, would be fashioned after the visionary leadership of Nkrumah to carve a Ghana as never before.
Has the dreams of our forefathers be achieved? Is mother Ghana proud of her children and grandchildren? Should Ghana be a 66 year old woman, will her children be proud of her?
God bless our homeland Ghana and Make our Nation Great and Strong.
Happy Holiday.
