ONE-EIGTH- LAST DAY

 


The last contests for the one-eigth stage of the NSMQ 22 ended earlier today. There were 5 contests across the 2 auditoriums. 

Kumapley Auditorium

The day started off with Adisadel College, Koforidua Sec, Tech and Acherensua S.H.S. At the end of this contest, Adisco had 52 points, KSTS had 30 and Achrensua had 01. The Santa's make it to the quarter finals. 

The last contest in this auditorium featured Ola S.H.S, Adventist S.H.S, Bantams and Tarkwa S.H.S. The adventists saw victory as they won this contest with 51 points. Tarkwa had 30 points and Ola had 18 points.

Saarah-Mensah Auditorium.

The very first contest in this auditorium was between Swedru S.H.S, Notre Dame Sem S.H.S and Simms S.H.S. Swedru S.H.S at the end of this contest qualified to the quarter finals with 41 points. Her competitors, Notre Dame had 26 and Simms had 15 points.

The second contest was featured Opoku Ware School vs Anlo S.H.S and Sunyani S.H.S.  Owass at the end of this contest sent her opponents back to the regional as she won the contest with 64 points. Sunyani S.HS had 19 points and Anlo had 15 points.

The very last contest for the one-eigth stage of the 2022 edition of the NSMQ was between Keta S.H.T., University Practice S.H.S and Nungua S.H.S. At the end of the contest, Keta S.H.T.S won with 52 points. University Practice had 40 points and Nungua had 21.

Galamsey and it's harmful impact in Ghana.

Small scale mining, popularly known as 'Galamsey', a word derived from the phrase 'gather and sell', or   Illegal Artisanal Small Scale Mining (ASM)   has been a canker of corruption and destruction in the Ghanaian communities. It is an illegal small scale mining activity independent from mining companies and performed by people known as 'galamseyers' or 'orpaillers' in the neighbouring Francophone countries.  Galamseyers normally operate by digging small holes  that appear shallow and smaller than those of mining companies. The number of galamseyers is quite undetermined by estimation to be between 20,000 to 50,000 with over 1,000 of them being Chinese citizens.
